With a view to leading to a deeper and more enriching understanding of Nepalese heritage and promoting it all around the world, Heritage International Institute and Tribhuvan University invite participants to focus on the diverse aspects of Nepalese heritage protection, preservation, and promotion.
Nepal is a land of ancient cultural traditions, where spirituality and hospitality blend seamlessly with modern life. The country is home to breath-taking and awe-inspiring cultural and natural sites, widespread throughout three different regions (Himalayan region, Terai region, Hilly region) and enriched by the multilingual and different ethnicities, which make the country a symbol of cultural pluralism and cultural diversity.
Nepal hosts four World Heritage Sites, including two cultural ones (the Kathmandu Valley and Lumbini, the Birthplace of the Lord Buddha) and two natural ones (the Chitwan National Park and Sagarmatha National Park). Nepal also counts on major intangible cultural heritage, with more than one hundred ethnic and caste groups, languages and dialects, oral traditions, folk performing arts (including music, dance, and drama), myths, legends, hymns, rituals songs, dirges, social practices, festive events, stories, and poetry.
