Cultural preservation and heritage studies are at the heart of our activities which intend to render design able to redefine cultural experiences in the contemporary context and revitalize cultural practices. Through design representations, expressions and knowledge, the Unit contributes to guarantee future generations, of different communities and groups, the preservation of a significant variety of cultural heritage.
The Unit aims at developing new techniques of design, combining tradition with innovation, and production with market. This will be carried out with a view to explore objects, spaces, resources, meaning concerning heritage while also contributing to its experiencing and promotion.
The Unit organizes activities and programs in favor of the promotion of cultural heritage through design, while also highlighting how design itself represents a crucial form of heritage. We organize transdisciplinary and experimental courses and workshops that connect different design practices and related fields, aiming to create a global network. We organize moments of meeting and dialogue, along with events in the design week system fashioned to create valuable relationships. The Unit also provides support to emerging designers, promoting their creations both in Italy and abroad, and stimulating imports and exports.
